We headed out for an early morning ferry to the island of Hvar. This is one of the most well known islands in the Mediterranean Sea because of its beautiful architecture and gorgeous rock beaches.
To begin this adventure, we had a walking tour. On this tour we learned that lions with books were carved into stones in buildings. If the book was depicted as open the building was constructed during time of peace, and if it was a closed book it was built during war time.
We also visited a monastery where we had the privilege of seeing some UNESCO protected silk woven lace. These were extremely delicate, intricate designs that took my breath away! They were stunning works of art and a prized possession for people.
Most importantly, we spent two hours relaxing on the beach. We set up shop on rock cliffs which jutted into the piercing blue water with an unbelievable view. The rhythmic sound of the water and the boats bobbing up and down was so serene.
It was a relaxing day and I'm happy to report I didn't get sunburnt.
