We visited the Flow Building today. It is a new construction projected located along an historic square in Prague. It is a mix of retail and offices with 9 floors above and 3 below. It is a concrete structure with with steel pile foundations.
Cost: about 1 billion Crowns (roughly $250 million)
Square Footage: 21,300
Developer: Flow East (British)
Architect: Chapman Taylor (British)
Contractor: MetroStau
Work Time: 8am-8pm
Workers on site: 100
Restrictions: In a high-end area with hotels so have noise restrictions and quiet hours
Challenges: Material Storage and delivers
Energy Code: Brim (similar to LEED, but more involved)
Technology: BIM, VR, no drones
Before we were allowed on the project the safety manager ran through safety protocol with us, asking questions like: do you feel mentally/physically fit today? Have you had any alcohol? Are you under the age of 21? ect. I thought this pre-construction walk was interesting because I have never gone through this process before entering a live construction. I thought it was a good protocol to have.
After our cool site visit we travel 30 minutes outside of Prague to Lidice, the location of Holax Farm. This is the memorial of a small town that was completely destroyed by the Germans during WWII. Two paratroopers lead to the Royal Army and were apart of a raid of German forces. As a result, Hilter wanted to make an example of a town and strike fear in people, so he had everyone in the town the paratroopers were from killed and their village destroyed. It is said to be the worst massacre of the whole war.
This was a very somber visit. Upon arrival we all fell silent. Many lives lost over so much hatred. This was a beautiful monument and well worth a visit.
