Today was slammed filled with construction site visits, good food, laughs and tourist actives!

Site Visit 1:

Construction Company: China Construction Corp.

Started: 2015

Planned completion: 2021

Behind schedule because the developer(government) ran into some financial problems

Cost: 1.8 billion RMB (roughly $250 million)

Bid Amount: 3.2 billlion RMB...the Chinese market is very competitive

Owner: Government

Program: Mix-use with 2 large office buildings, with commercial on the ground floor, 6 multi-family buildings

Structure: Cast in place

Worker Compensation: 100RMB/day-380 RMB/day

Work Day: 10 hour days, 7 days a week

Workers on Site: 1,200-1,400...currently 400 because of financing problems

Women on site: 6

We were shown around the large development site by a project engineer and the a owner rep. They explained a great labor shortage problem, very similar to the labor shortage we are facing in America. Bottom line, young people are not interested in the work. A majority of the labor force come from the rural regions of China, work on a 5-year contract and return home with the money they have saved.

Site Visit 2:

Construction Company: China Construction Corp.

Started: 2017

Planned Completion: 2019

Area: 23,000 square meters

Cost: .56 Billion RMB (roughly $100 million)

Owner:

Program: Retail (shopping mall)

Structure: Cast in place

Workers on site: 500

Women on site: 2

**In China, the laborers live on site. They live in pre-fab temporary units located within the fence of the job site.

Dinner: We had a very traditional Chinese dinner with an amazing view and a performance from the Chinese Opera singer.

Top of Shanghai Tower: This was so cool! I can now say I've been to the top the second tallest building in the world...at least for now!

Total Mileage: 4.65
