Today is our first full day in Beijing and we are spending it at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUECA)…aka Dan Li’s University! This campus was stunning and is filled with amazing green space and modern architecture! We were graciously given a presentation by a woman who works in VDC division of a Chinese construction company and toured around by 3 students studying at the school. After visiting, it is clear that America is a little more advanced in their use of BIM, AR, VR and MR, however, China is quickly gaining traction with use technology.
Once we learned about the University, some students accompanied us on a construction site visit. We visited a residential housing complex that was 65% prefabricated. The contractors, Beijing Urban Construction Group, were using prefabricated concrete exterior wall panels, interior partitions, sub floor and stairs.
Total area: 127,422 square meters
Program: 12 residential buildings
Project Management Team Size: 35
Cost: 270 million Yuan ($38.5 million)
Duration: 2.5 years
The prefabricated panels are fabricated 15 miles from the jobsite and only require 2 days of lead time. On average they receive 4-6 deliveries a day.
After a long day and lots of Chinese food, a small group of students decided eat a nice French restaurant located next our hotel…this was a delicious and very need meal!
Total Mileage: 5.52
